At its height it employed 26 driving instructors at locations in Exeter and Exmouth. Before driving instructors were regulated, Elliscars had already begun to train them to make sure that there was a high standard of tuition given to their students.
This resulted in winning, on two occasions the coveted RAC Driving Instructor of the Year Competition.
 In 1971 the business also began teaching HGV classes from a base at Marsh Barton Exeter. It was one of the first in the country to put customers through their HGV driving tests.
 I am Philip Davies, the third generation of Davies’ driving instructors, with over 36 years experience in the Road Haulage and Training industry.
 I originally commenced teaching articulated vehicles in December 1990 for Exeter HGV Training. I also worked for the RAF for re-settlement courses and for Devon County Council teaching various classes.
 I currently work for myself teaching car learners but I also work for Hampshire County Council as a driver trainer. I teach a variety of subjects for HCC from the Pass Plus Scheme to Business Driver Training which can be in a variety of vehicles. I also train Hampshire County Council staff to pass the D1 minibus test so they can then drive the heavier minibuses in schools and colleges. I am a fully qualified DVSA Adi (Grade A) and also a DVSA Adi(fleet) trainer. I have years of experience teaching from complete beginners to advanced drivers. I also train the MiDAS trainers at Hampshire County Council to train and assess their organisations members of staff.
